A warm welcome to my studio!

Hello and thank you for your interest in my work.

I've been an artist for over 30 years and have trained in a diverse range of artistic disciplines - everything from painting and life drawing to illustration and cold wax painting.

In recent years I've studied with St Ives School of Painting in Cornwall in South West England and with artists based in Georgia and California in the US.

Art and nature are doorways to delight!

The natural world is the place where the magic in my day begins! It's where I pause, slow down and 'tune-in' to the grace and beauty of the natural world around me. It's also where I gather the energy and inspiration I need to begin painting.

Art making is full of adventure!

I love learning new skills, exploring different art materials and developing my own unique style of work.
I also enjoy using all kinds of gorgeous art materials, from sumptuous inks and gentle watercolours, to vibrant acrylics and butter-soft coloured pastels and pencils. My favourite art tool is a silicon wedge tool by Princeton, which allows me to glide paint in gorgeous lyrical motions. I also love printmaking and currently work almost exclusively on paper.

I used to paint representationally, but over time my work has become more abstracted and impressionistic. I have no fixed ideas about how my paintings should look, I simply follow my instincts and let curiosity guide me. It sometimes leads to frustrating places, but other times takes me to breath-taking discoveries. This uncertainty is all part of the art-making adventure!

I paint to evoke experience.

I paint sensory impressions and feelings, exploring how it feels to be in nature - to walk across fields, beside rivers and oceans and among wildflowers and woodlands.

I love to explore nature's colour palette and I'm especially captivated by the timeless energy and spirit of trees and wildflower meadows.

I'm also passionate about capturing the essence of a subject as opposed to its accurate depiction.

I begin every painting with 20 minutes of relaxed play, laying down large areas of colour to express my mood and then refining my ideas into more nuanced expressions. I love bright, sumptuous colours against darker muted shades and playful, delicate mark-making against bolder inky gestures.

Finding magic in everyday moments.

My work isn't big or shouty. It's small, intenserich and heartfelt.

Each piece is composed of small individual paintings that offer different glimpses or snapshots of feelings, memories or sense impressions, evoking a rich and magical visual experience.

My work is relaxed and intuitive and I let the art materials express themselves – drips, splashes, smudges and scratches are all welcomed and the results always surprise and delight me! I believe that art, like nature, is always beautifully imperfect.

When I paint I ask myself ...

How can I celebrate the energy, spirit and beauty of the natural world? How can I convey the deep gratitude, joy and contentment nature gives me and how can I share this meaningfully with others in a way that brings, energy, positivity, wonder and inspiration? This has become my passion and my calling.

My paintings are a gentle invitation for you to take a pause and enjoy a tiny bit magical moment in your day.

Thanks so much for dropping by!
